Go into the New Year with a POP and open one of our 3 very special sparkling wines - this case includes 2 bottles each of the following.
'Jamie' 2023 Bacchus Pet Nat
Grapes grown in Wiltshire, UK
What does the wine taste like?
Dry. Elderflowers. Peach. Apricots. Aromatic and Fresh. English sparkling wine the way it could be!!
How was Jamie made?
So Jamie is a 'Nat Fizz' (Naturally Fizzy), the French call this style 'Pet Nat'. Essentially this wine ferments and goes fizzy in the bottle using only the naturally occurring yeasts and underlying sugar present in the grape juice. We don't add anything at all to this wine. We press the grapes, ferment the juice in chilled stainless steel tanks before transferring the still fermenting wine to bottle before the end of the first and only fermentation. In case you are not aware, Champagne, Cava, Prosecco, Crémant and almost every other sparkling wine style globally undergoes 2 fermentations.
Who is Jamie?
Jamie works as a machine operator in Essex. He's a lovely bloke and this bottle is Jamie at 45 yrs old.
'Crystal' 2022 Croatina Nat Fizz (Pet Nat) Pink
Grapes grown in Lombardy, Italy.
What’s the wine like?
Crystal’s a really fun one, packed with flavour and good vibes. Rhubarb and strawberries on the nose with a slight minerality on the palate and some thirst-quenching grapefruit notes that compliment the wine’s fruity, creamy style. Fruity but still dry, this wine has it all. Take this wine to the park on a summer’s day, celebrate spring with some pink fizz, or use it to brighten up a winter’s day—this wine’s great for any day!
How was Crystal made?
The grapes were 100% whole bunch pressed and transferred to a stainless steel, pressurised tank, where it started fermenting wild (aka by natural yeasts). It was bottled mid-ferment. No additions of yeast, sugar or sulphites were made, and no fining or filtration was applied. This wine is undisgorged.
Who is Crystal?
She was a student from KL, Malaysia, studying fashion and living in Aldgate East when we first made her in 2018. Now she's in KL helping with her family business. Ask her about it. :)
‘Roger’ 2023 Rondo Col Fondo
Grapes grown in Hampshire, UK
What’s the wine like?
Cherries, blackcurrants and sloe berries - the first time we've made this wine!
Roger is made in what many call the Col Fondo method (Col Fondo means 'with the bottom') a wine made just like a Champagne but not quite the same. It's a super deep, blackcurranty, unusual wonderland of a wine. Soft and lovely but given it's been made like a red and fermented in bottle (without being disgorged) it is fizzy but loses it's fizz quicker than most wines - very unusual - in a clear bottle so you can see the dark purpleness!
An unusual, dark and tantalizing red English sparkler. Just be careful Roger stains!
So how is Roger made?
With this wine, the grapes were destemmed by hand over wire by the Renegade team (and a few local helpers!) then went to the tank to ferment on skins, just the way a red wine would. Rather than leaving the grapes in contact with the skins for weeks and weeks, we pressed the wine/juice off the skins slightly earlier so as to not extract too much of the tannins and fullness that you would want in a red wine. We then refermented the wine and transferred to the bottle to finish the process. We did this process in spring/early summer time, so had to use the power of our little temperature controlled room to bring the temperature down a bit - it was warm this late spring/summer at points, I promise. We like to keep the wine around the 16C mark through this process.
Who is Roger?
Roger is now retired, he was 89 when we picked the grapes, he's now 90! He is an architect and has had a fascinating career taking him across the globe. He now lives in Cheltenham!
Hand harvested then shipped by Renegade in refrigerated trucks at 2˚C direct to the London winery.
All wine fully made in London.
Note: These wines, like all our wines, are vegan friendly. They are made without the use of animal based winemaking products.
